Combating the isolation of LGBTI+ seniors

The project
ElderlySolidarity
The challenge is to break down isolation and give seniors back the possibility of making choices, to give them back hope and power so that they can continue to project themselves into the future, while remaining themselves to the end, in a secure and caring environment.

50

Solution
La Maison de la Diversité is an inclusive, participative habitat for isolated, autonomous or slightly frail elderly people without family support; a place and lifestyle chosen to respond to the social isolation associated with old age, where everyone is an actor in their life course and which takes into account the issues of LGBTI+ seniors.
A habitat made up of:
- Unfurnished individual rental accommodation.
- Shared guest rooms.
- Student accommodation.
- Communal living spaces open to the neighborhood.
A place and a way of life chosen:
- to respond to the social isolation linked to old age in general;
- based on a project of mutual aid and solidarity between neighbors around "aging well";
- where everyone is an actor in their own life course.
A project built on convictions:
- Social ties: the key to aging well and maintaining autonomy
- Inclusive housing: a supportive, anti-speculative lifestyle, to look after your neighbors and age well at home without remaining isolated
- Intergenerational solidarity: a mix of ages that's a source of inspiration, sharing and wealth
- Openness to and about the environment: a choice for inclusion in the territory
- The House of Diversity: a choice for living and preventing loss of autonomy

Why we love it?
Because seniors have the right to their own freedom and autonomy, and because it's important to maintain secure, caring social ties at all ages, the Maison de la Diversité conveys a real message of hope and humanity.
I support this generation that fought for our rights. When you've suffered rejection and discrimination, when you've fought to advance the rights of individuals like everyone else, LGBT+ people, you don't want to go back into the closet...
