Helping vulnerable young people become self-sufficient

Dear Difteur-ses,

2024 marked a turning point for Chapitre 2: our first full year of existence since the merger that gave birth to the association. A rich, intense, demanding year, during which we have structured our actions, consolidated our methods and, above all, accompanied ever more young people towards autonomy.

In this activity report, we look back at the year's major lessons, the actions deployed in the field, the partnership dynamics engaged, but also the high points that have marked our journey. All illustrated by testimonials from young people, volunteers, and partners who have placed their trust in us.

Our action has been deployed around three major axes: professional integration, social accompaniment and the creation of social ties, and we have implemented concrete solutions, adapted to the realities of the young people we accompany.

In 2024...

👉 250 young people have taken part in our "Côte à Côte"

👉72 collective meetings have been organized for young people

👉 74 young people leaving the ASE have been supported in their steps towards independence by our social workers

👉92 young people have been coached in their professional integration

The new year has started off strong for Chapter 2, so here we go with a quick recap of the main news from the last two months!

We celebrated the asso's one-year anniversary 🎂

At the end of January, we got together with the young people supported by the asso, the volunteers, and our social action partners to blow out Chapitre 2's first candle together!

A chance for us to look back on the major milestones of the past year, but also to share our ambitions for the coming months...

All this over a giant bingo to bring everyone together as we like to do!

We welcomed our first pro insertion manager 🔥

Fatoumata joined us at the beginning of January to develop innovative solutions in response to the needs linked to the professional insertion of the young people we support. The actions proposed in this area will therefore be developed in the coming months.

We've opened our first branch outside Paris! ☀️

That's it, it's official, Chapitre 2 is expanding into the rest of France, starting with Marseille!

We recently welcomed Maylis and Eva to the team, ready to deploy our actions in this brand-new territory.

Navigating the world of careers and orientations can be intimidating, especially at a young age.

The Journée des Métiers de Chapitre 2 allows young participants to project themselves into various sectors, explore fields they may not have thought of, and open their minds to vocations they didn't know existed.

This day of exchange, discovery and conviviality encourages everyone to ask questions, develop their curiosity, and get a concrete idea of different professions. It's also a great way to break down the stereotypes professionals and learn directly from the people who embody these professions on a daily basis.

On November 6, young people, accompanied by the association and its partner homes, were invited to join us and meet the 50 professionals present for the occasion.

From marketing to construction, from scenography to aviation, there was something for everyone!

The 100 young people present were able to talk to the players in these different sectors to find out more about their daily lives, their missions, their career paths, etc.

The CIDJ (Centre d'Information et de Documentation Jeunesse)also had a stand, to inform young people about the various training courses that could be envisaged for them according to their aptitudes.

A huge thank you again to all the young people present for their enthusiasm, as well as to all the volunteer professionals without whom this event could not take place! 🙏

While September is well and truly here, and we may have already been swept up in the back-to-school whirlwind, we're still taking a step back to savor the success that was Chapter 2's summer releases! 🌼

For yes, the creation of social ties didn't take a vacation during this period when isolation can be all the more keenly felt by those who aren't lucky enough to get away. 

The young people accompanied by our various programs thus had the opportunity to share beautiful moments of sharing and discovery, for the time of a day or an evening. 

Between a visit to the Château de Fontainebleau and its gardens, a great treasure hunt in the Montreuil forest, sharing a picnic on the Buttes Chaumont under the setting sun or a race through the streets of the capital in search of the best photo, there was plenty to keep them busy! 🤸

A big thank you to all our captains for their difts, which enable us to continue our work with young people in highly vulnerable situations. 🙏 

Now off to the new school year, with the ambition of extending our actions into new territories... 👀 

Forty or so young people are currently being supported by volunteers in their projects for professional integration (looking for internships, work-study schemes, jobs, etc.). Great successes are already to be celebrated, as around ten of them have already managed to achieve their goal since January! 🥳
Collective meetings have been very busy since the start of the school year, with some thirty activities on offer. With (among others) a painting activity, a visit to the Centre Pompidou and a cinema outing to the Grand Rex, the creation of links between young people was on the agenda 🧡
There are currently 80 pairs involved in the Côte à Côte social link program... and requests from young people to participate are still coming in!
So too is social support: 40 young people are currently being supported in their efforts to achieve autonomy (accommodation, civil status and access to residency procedures, mobility, health, daily life, well-being and social ties) by Victoire and Juliette, our two social workers. We continue to offer financial support to destitute young people, and toaccommodate around ten young people in wandering situations in the two houses made available to us while they stabilize their situation.
So business is in full swing, and we're continuing to do everything we can to support vulnerable young people as best we can towards independence!

A huge thank you to you, our Captains, for your generosity: your difts enabled us to raise nearly €17,000, it's crazy crazy crazy! 🤩 

To give you a small idea of the impact this represents, it's the equivalent, on average, of one month's financial support for 57 vulnerable young people without resources! 

Your action therefore makes a very concrete contribution to preventing these young people from breaking off and tipping over into exclusion: the financial support enables them to meet their basic needs while they stabilize their situation. 🧡 

A look back at what's been going on with us 👀 

The last few months have been VERY busy and full of good news for the young people we support, our volunteers and our team...

🚀 A merger, to provide even better support for young people 

In December, we merged with the Capitales association, which had been offering vocational integration support programs to young people in the care of the Aide Sociale à l'Enfance for over 30 years.

We decided to join forces to form a new organization and bring together our various youth programs: Chapitre 2. 

The mission of this new asso? Accompany vulnerable young people towards autonomy, by working on their social and professional integration. 

This merger enables us to propose a comprehensive offer to young people, and to create virtuous bridges between our different schemes (social support, social ties, professional integration, etc...). 

The 2024 objective: to accompany ever more vulnerable young people towards autonomy! 💪 

💯 New recruits to our crack team 

January was synonymous with new arrivals for the Chapter 2 team: we had the pleasure of welcoming 4 new Service Civique volunteers to take over from the volunteers who have already been supporting us for several months and who will be flying off to new adventures very soon (😢), as well as a part-time student to reinforce the "operations" part of the asso. 

The 2024 team is now complete and ready for the new adventure that is Chapter 2 🥳

Since the start of the new school year, we've had two houses at our disposal to house homeless young people accompanied by the association.

‍

Stirrup, a matchmaking platform that secures the loan of vacant housing to mutual aid associations, is our partner on this project. The owners of the houses are making them available to us, for the young people we are accompanying, for the next twelve months.

Located in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, very close to the station, the two houses are semi-detached. They are home to five young women and five young men, who were previously homeless.

As housing is one of the first needs to be covered for successful integration, we are delighted to be able to offer this solution to the young people we support. These accommodations enable them to get out of a daily emergency situation, and stabilize their situation to focus on their social support and their project.

To welcome the young people with dignity into these homes, which we recovered empty, we had to fully furnish the two houses and carry out some work.

The two houses are now habitable, and rules of living have been put in place to facilitate cohabitation between the young people.

The school year is coming to an end... so are training registrations! 🎓

Thanks to the support of Victoire, our Intervention Manager, several young people have recently learned that they have been accepted for sandwich courses next year 🎉
 
This news is the result of intense support work at the end of this year, but it is also full of meaning as it means that these young people will, from next year :

We wish them all success and fulfillment in their training! 🫶
Our social bonding scheme, Côte à Côte, has also seen a few pairs bring their participation in the program to a close in recent weeks.
 
As a reminder, this horizontal mentoring program concludes with the successful completion of a project led by both members of a pair.
