Organizing innovative expeditions to support scientific research

The project
BiodiversityResearch
The depths of the oceans remain largely unknown and threatened, even though they are home to ecosystems essential to the balance of life on Earth. With this in mind, the divers and scientists on the Under The Pole expeditions are exploring the depths of the mesophotic zone (30-200 m), in order to understand them, make them visible and protect them.

Solution
Internationally recognized for its experience in polar and deep diving,
Under The Pole organizes, from the sailing vessel WHY, complex scientific expeditions
around the world. The innovation lies in the collaboration with
scientific and institutional milieus, isolated working areas and exceptional means
mobilized.
By partnering with the French and international research community, the
expeditions aim to conduct ambitious scientific programs, based on
diving techniques enabling precision, flexibility and low impact on
ecosystems, to push back the limits of knowledge of the
mesophotic zone (30-200 m).
As part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences
at the service of sustainable development, UNDER THE POLE is leading the international research program DEEPLIFE (2021-2030), in collaboration with the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and an international scientific consortium
. This program aims to better understand the role of marine
animal forests (MAFs) in maintaining marine biodiversity.
