Challenge

On Saturday, December 14, an exceptional cyclone devastated the Mayotte archipelago, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries, enormous damage and totally devastating the precarious housing that affects more than a third of the population.

Solution

Faced with the distress of the hard-hit populations, the Fondation de France is launching an appeal for national solidarity for Mayotte.

Use of the money

Building on its experience in the West Indies in 2017 (cyclones Irma, José and Maria) and relying on its local partners in the Indian Ocean region, the Fondation de France is rapidly deploying essential actions to help victims (shelter, psychological support, ...). The Fondation de France will help the most vulnerable victims. It will closely monitor the evolution of needs and adapt its actions according to the situation of those most in distress.

Complementing the action of the public authorities, it will give priority to projects by associations that will help families rebuild their lives - regain a roof over their heads and basic equipment, resume an activity, ...- and enable the community to rebuild a social, associative and educational life. It will also support small craftsmen and farmers, whose production tools have been destroyed, to restart their business.

It will intervene after the immediate relief and emergency phase to facilitate the return to normal daily life of the most fragile people.
