Creating inclusive housing for young people

There's a lot going on at Fratries at the start of this year! 🎉

We're delighted to announce the opening of our 3rd Fratrie in Nantes, in the Beauséjour district, where the 11 roommates with and without disabilities have been living together since January. As in the other Fratries, young working people with disabilities are supported in their social and professional integration. A new adventure begins for them in this beautiful house close to all amenities.

But that's not all! Other colivings are being prepared in Bourg-la-Reine (92) and Paris : the colocs are preparing, alongside the Fratries team and their families, their shared living project. At the end of the year, they'll be moving into these beautiful homes, designed to offer privacy and spacious communal areas.

Each new home is an opportunity for inclusion and autonomy for young people with mental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. And that's also thanks to you! 💙

Our housemates have been busy decorating the houses: twinkling garlands, majestic fir trees and even a few homemade cookies. The festive mood is here, and with it, the opportunity to share precious moments and think of others.

But that's not all! The vacations are approaching, but our mission doesn't stop. As soon as the new school year gets underway, we'll be back in full swing, helping our housemates to find jobs.

What's more, two new houses have opened their doors in Versailles and Nantes: that's ten housemates that Fratries has been helping to find and keep jobs for the past year or so!

Thanks to their house managers, they are continuing their efforts: interviews, internships and professional projects are on the agenda.

So as the year draws to a close, why not support them? Every donation counts and enables these young people to keep moving forward, surrounded and supported. 💪

The end of the year is approaching, and for Fratries, it's a busy time!

Good news to start with:

In Rennes, one more housemate has just been employed at a major hotel group. Since the opening, he had been accompanied by Joseph, house manager, in his job search, interviews and internships. No doubt the start of a great adventure!

As the Week of Employment for People with Disabilities gets underway, we offer a few figures to help you understand Fratries' impact in terms of inclusion through employment.

In France, only 0.5% of the 750,000 people with learning disabilities work in mainstream companies.

At Fratries:

These great results are possible thanks to the house managers who accompany the housemates with mental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders towards and into employment on a daily basis.

We are preparing to open 3 new houses before the end of the year in Versailles and Nantes. Employment support has already begun for the housemates who will be moving in thanks to co-construction workshops, and will of course continue after they've put down their bags. We'll keep you posted! 😉

September has just begun, and it's time to get back to work! Our employed housemates have indeed returned to work. Others are still looking for internships and jobs that match their desires and talents. There's no time like the start of the new school year to take stock! 

 

- In Nantes, good news! As of June 2024, a roommate has been hired on a permanent contract in a real estate agency as a multi-skilled assistant. It's a job in which she thrives, surrounded by her colleagues. Etienne, the house manager, supports her on a daily basis in her relationship with the employer, managing her schedule and doing everything necessary to make her feel good at work. 

- In Rennes, two housemates have signed their first CDI in a crèche. Early childhood will soon hold no secrets for them! 

 

In Rennes as in Colombes, some housemates are still looking for work, accompanied by Joseph and Clotilde, the house managers. On the agenda for the new school year: internships, job interviews and reflection on their professional desires. 💪

At Fratries, house managers wear many hats: they support housemates with disabilities in deploying their shared living project, but they also dedicate part of their time to job-coaching!

They help disabled housemates find jobs in mainstream employment, and follow up with employers to make sure everything is going smoothly. Alongside their job coach, the currently unemployed housemates reflect on their desires, to develop a professional project in line with their talents. The house managers support them in their search for internships and work experience, to consolidate their project. Is your company recruiting? And for those housemates who are working, the house managers are also there to support them on a daily basis in their relationship with their employer and in the organization of their working life.

In fact, the first half of 2024 was marked by the signing of fixed-term contracts, permanent contracts and several internships. It's certain that vocations have been born!" 

Some key figures: Fratries accompanies 100% of housemates and future housemates with disabilities. 70% of them are in post within a year of opening a home. Today, this represents 37 young working people with disabilities supported towards and in employment by Fratries. And it's all thanks to you, our supporters on Captain Cause. A big thank you! 🙌

This is it, Fratries Rennes has gradually opened its doors and the coliving has been fully booked since January 2024! 
In this completely renovated and equipped coliving, 13 active young people including 7 with mental disabilities or autistic disorders are happily living together, accompanied by Joseph, the house manager, social and shared life facilitator but also job coach for the young people with disabilities. He works in close collaboration with William, Déborah, Cyndia and Léna, the carers who take turns every day to help these young people become more independent.Rapidly, the roommates have developed a close bond and, as in any other shared apartment, they share lots of good times and learn from each other!

Some news about Fratries Rennes: this coliving that, by January 2024,  will welcome 13 young working people, half of whom are mentally handicapped or have autistic disorders.
After a good year's work, the house is currently being fitted out. We're proud to have the support of numerous volunteers who have not hesitated to lend us a hand in assembling the furniture and installing the decor.
The disabled housemates, who have been co-constructing this shared living project for 18 months, can't wait to put down their suitcases in the house. At the same time, places are still available for young working people from Rennes who would like to move into this great house and share a wonderful human adventure. As a reminder, Fratries Rennes will accommodate 13 young people in coliving, including 6 with disabilities or autism spectrum disorders, in a large building in the hypercentre of Rennes (near Place des Lices). 

Since February 2022, the future roommates with disabilities and their caregivers have been meeting regularly to co-construct their social and shared life project alongside Fratries.

Joseph, who lives in an adjacent apartment with his family, is the house manager, the animator of the shared life who will accompany them on a daily basis to gain in autonomy, in close collaboration with life companions, employed by a local SAAD (Service d'Aide et d'Accompagnement à Domicile). Joseph is also their "job coach" to enable them to integrate professionally, in line with their talents! 

Since 2022, major work has been underway to fit out this comfortable coliving and enable them to have large shared spaces, but also each their own room with private bathroom/WC. 

And today?
> The plasterboard has been laid, the rooms have gradually taken shape and are currently being painted! 
> The seated dogs have been installed in the attic, totally transforming the top floor, which is now very bright. Renovation of the bedrooms on this floor is also underway. 
> After the work on the upper floors, the living rooms are currently being renovated (addition of velux windows in the future living room, insulation, plasterboard...).

The progress of the work means that we can envisage Fratries Rennes opening by the end of the year, following the assembly of furniture and fittings that will precede the future housemates moving in! Thank you all for your support in making this project a reality!

The future housemates are due to move in in September. Depending on the progress of the work, the house will open its doors before the end of the year for sure!  
Since February 2022, a group of 6 young people with disabilities and their carers have begun meeting in Rennes alongside Fratries to co-construct their social and shared life project: Vianney, Anne-Emmanuelle, Robin, Fabian, Claire and Alexandre! 
Two buildings with a total surface area of 340 m2 and an adjacent family apartment have been secured by Fratries in the hypercentre of Rennes.
Since mid-May 2022, major work has begun to fit out:
- a 13-room coliving facility, including 6 rooms for young people with mental disabilities 
- an independent apartment for the employee (and family) accompanying the disabled young people. 
The foundation stone was laid on November 16 at an evening inauguration with the project partners.
And today?
In March 2023, the structural work phase is underway: major work has been carried out on the roof with the installation of smoke extraction frames (new velux windows) to ensure the safety of the house, plumbing networks are being laid, masonry work is underway to prepare for the future arrival of the plasterer, and around 90% of the structural reinforcements have been completed.
The coliving will open in the 4th quarter of 2023 and we'll be able to welcome our 13 roommates thanks to you!
