Challenge
Sensibilization
Humanity is currently experiencing the 6th mass extinction of species. The last was the disappearance of the dinosaurs. Mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile and fish populations have fallen by 68% in the last 50 years(source WWF).
There is therefore an urgent need to act, because with the disappearance of biodiversity on Earth, it is our own disappearance that we are preparing.

Solution
L'Association de la Vallée de la Millière was created by Yann Arthus-Bertrand to preserve 30 ha of land he acquired in the village of Les Mesnuls (Yvelines). A wetland with a particularly rich biodiversity, including rare species, having earned it its classification as a Zone Naturelle d'Intérêt Faunistique et Floristique (ZNIEFF), the site is conducting, on an experimental basis, a renaturation project.
It's an experimental project, accompanied and supported by scientists, notably by the Université Paris-Saclay.
On the site, the Association's objectives are:
- to enable the renaturalization of a 28ha valley floor;
- to create an educational Garden, the Jardin des Partages, a 1.4ha demonstration site of various more sustainable farming techniques using agroforestry and permaculture techniques;
- to enable ecological and environmental studies and research linked to the return of biodiversity to the valley;
- to raise public awareness (companies, general public, schools..) to the protection of biodiversity and farming techniques that respect the living.
La Vallée de La Millière is intended to serve as a pilot project to help other renaturation projects at a later date.

Why we love it?
If you recognize this emblematic heart, you know that photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand is one of the world's leading ambassadors for the preservation of biodiversity. So, when he decided to create this pilot area to study renaturation projects, we were obviously won over!
