Financing projects to accelerate ocean protection

Did you know? Without the ocean, the temperatures we’re facing today would be much higher. The Ocean: A Weakening Climate Shield Thanks to its high heat capacity and immense volume, the ocean absorbs a large portion of the heat generated by global warming. This heat, captured at the surface, is then transported to the depths through vertical heat exchange that occurs mainly in the polar regions, leading to observable warming across all ocean basins. The more the Earth warms, the less effective the ocean becomes Thanks to advances in research, we now know that the ocean’s capacity to store carbon and heat is diminishing as the planet warms. Restoring biodiversity to strengthen the planet’s resilience Restoring marine biodiversity is essential for protecting ecosystems and addressing climate change. Scientists estimate that significant restoration of marine habitats is still possible by 2050 if swift action is taken. The Fondation de la Mer takes concrete action to protect the ocean, selecting, financially supporting, and guiding solutions to strengthen the resilience of marine ecosystems. For example, it supports projects to raise awareness, protect, and restore seagrass beds, as well as to preserve mangroves, which are powerful carbon sinks. Thanks to your contributions, in 2025:- 90 projects to preserve biodiversity and combat pollution were able to be carried out,- 122,830 students mobilized from kindergarten to high school,- 11 prizes awarded to support research, + 21 million people made aware by our communication actions!
