Solution

The Komodo dragon is endemic to 6 islands in southeast Indonesia: 5 islands in the Komodo National Park and the island of Flores, within 4 protected areas to the west and north. It is in the heart of the latter that the Komodo Survival Program association surveys Komodo dragons and monitors their reproduction. This monitoring is mainly carried out using photographic traps. At the same time, surveillance patrols are organized to spot and prevent bush fires, timber harvesting or poaching of deer, one of the Komodo dragons' prey.

Prix Beauval Nature 2025: Innovation and technology at the service of conservation
Recently, teams have been trained in the use of SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tools) monitoring software. This mobile application will enable the NGO to better track patrol routes and the rangers to more easily plan their work. This application ensures that the entire area is monitored.

The Komodo dragon is a unique animal, the largest living lizard in the monitor group. I've been working for its preservation for over 20 years, and this is an opportunity for which I'm grateful.
