Restoring the habitat of pinched tamarinds

Fundación Proyecto Tití

Dear difteur-ses,

The Proyecto Tití foundation is delighted to see how quickly the landscape is being transformed in the "Los Titíes de San Juan" reserve, thanks to restoration and protection actions.

Fields and pastures are giving way to real forests, benefiting pinyon tamarinds, the fauna of the tropical forests of northern Colombia, but also human communities.

To date, over 120,000 local trees have been planted thanks to you. This has helped to restore nearly 370 hectares of the reserve, plus around 1,000 hectares of forest corridors on agricultural land.
At this rate, these young forests will soon provide sufficient food and shelter for pinched tamarins, while restoring essential ecosystem services, which will directly benefit local communities.

Beauval Nature

Dear difteur-ses,

Since 1985, Proyecto Tití has been carrying out multiple actions in Colombia: habitat restoration, scientific research, support for the economic development of local populations and raising awareness of forest conservation.

What actions did the NGO carry out in 2024 thanks to your support?
The answer below!

▪️ Purchase of a 420-hectare cattle farm, which has almost ddoubled the size of the "Los Titíes de San Juan" reserve located in northern Colombia.
▪️ Planting of 13,933 saplings of over 50 native species in the reserve.
▪️ Continued study of wild tamarinds: 10 family groups are currently being monitored (around 62 individuals), in 3 different regions.
▪️ Awareness-raising of over 1,300 pupils belonging to 44 classes in 6 local communities.
▪️ Welcomed over 2,300 people on World Pinch Tamarind Day.
▪️ Expanded community involvement program: 30 new farmers were coached to develop sustainable farming practices and get involved in forest preservation. This now includes over 250 members.
▪️ Participation in COP16 on biodiversity.

A big THANK YOU for your support!

Over 13,000 trees planted by 2024

Dear difteurs,

Once a year, between April and August, female tamarins pinched give birth to their young, usually twins. Later births can occur, for example if the first litter does not survive or if the group suffers disturbances.

One of the groups monitored by the NGO has experienced just such changes, with the arrival of new individuals and the departure of older members.

While following these changes in the heart of the Colombian forest, Proyecto Tití teams spotted 2 little tamarins on the back of a female... in October! Fortunately, these late births do not affect the survival of the infants. They will be weaned at around 4 months of age and will then enjoy the fruits offered by the forest.

Thank you very much, dear donors, for your invaluable support and donations ✨

A surprise in the forest: twins born to the pinched tamarins!

Dear difteurs,

For the past 17 years, the Proyecto Tití foundation has been celebrating the day of the Tamarin pinché, in three different localities in Colombia. This year, the theme focused on the trafficking of these little primates and the importance of leaving them in their forest: "La Libertad del tití es el bosque".

Nearly 3,000 people took part in the festivities, attending shows, playing games, or admiring works of art, all inspired by the pinched tamarin. While schoolchildren from all communities are at the heart of this event, Proyecto Tití was delighted to welcome local farmers and teachers, whose speeches and songs emphasized the importance of protecting tamarinds and their forest.

A lovely moment to remember that all individual actions can make a big difference!

A big thank you for your difts and precious support.

3,000 people celebrate the pinched tamarinds

In recent months, 11,800 seedlings of 30 different tree species have been planted in Colombia. Their survival and growth are being carefully monitored.

11,800 trees planted in 2 months!

Thank you for your donations! Thanks to you, the first plantings of the year have been completed in the "Los Titíes de San Juan" reserve in northern Colombia. The aim is to restore the forest on a plot of land formerly used for livestock and agriculture. Seeds are collected and planted in the nursery. Once the young trees are large enough, they can be planted in the areas to be restored. Between April and May, 6,500 trees of 37 different native species were planted, thanks to Proyecto Tití staff and local farmers. A sample of these seedlings is being monitored to ensure the success of the operation.
