Challenge

While 80% of the fruit and vegetables we eat depend on pollinators, 75% of the flying insect biomass has disappeared in twenty-seven years.

Un rêve d'abeilles aims to raise awareness of bee preservation among future generations. What's more, they need to be empowered to take action by knowing which plants are important to them, where solitary-nesting bees can find shelter, and other urgent measures to prevent their disappearance. In this way, the association aims to turn schoolchildren into future ambassadors and defenders of bees.

Solution

To introduce schoolchildren to the world of bees, the project uses beehives located in the Chablais region of Savoie, maintained by the association on behalf of communes. To take the honeybee preservation approach a step further, the aim is to use these communal apiaries as a vehicle for raising awareness in various schools through in-class educational activities (creation of cosmetics based on hive products), on-site hive visits or honey extraction at the end of the beekeeping season.

Use of the money

This funding will be used to donate a beehive to each school integrating the program: a highly symbolic and meaningful gesture that helps demonstrate to children the importance of helping bees. Throughout the beekeeping season, students will also be kept informed about the life of the hive, and the honey produced will be that of the school's hive.
Why we love it?

Given the importance of pollinators in our ecosystems, it seems essential to raise awareness of their role among the youngest members of society, to encourage them to preserve this species, and biodiversity in general, and this is what Un rêve d'abeilles poetically does!
